Day 76

Amy: So Wraith, come to any conclusions?

Wraith: This one has concluded that the death of subject was caused by a puncture wound on the back of the head.

Jim: How? From what I was looking at yesterday there didn't seem to be any external damage to her armor.

Wraith: This one has two possible explanations for the status of the crew member.

Jim: And those are?

Wraith: One is that the victim was murdered before getting into the battle frame, the other is that she was killed by some sort of weapon that phased through her armor.

Amy: How the hell does that work? Sounds like you’d need some pretty complicated tech to make a weapon like that.

Wraith: That is what makes this one concerned.

Jim: What do you mean?

Wraith: While both possibilities would suggest different types of turmoil amongst the crew, the latter suggests that one of or a number of the 🔁⧬⥶⥫🔀🔂 managed to find their way onto this vessel.

Amy: English please.

Wraith: Apologies, searching for an appropriate translation now…
Translation found.

Jim: Lay it on us.

Wraith: Verakore is the closest translation this one could manage.

Amy: Right so these Verakore, they a bunch of badasses or something?

Wraith: Quite a lethal species, yes. Their kind was engaged with the Faar’Shar for a long time until the eventual destruction of Andromeda.

Amy: Oh… so they’re the ones that did it?

Wraith: There is no definitive proof of what actually happened, but it is suspected the Verakore were responsible.

Amy: I'm having a hard time imagining a race that could go toe to toe with the Faar’Shar.

Wraith: The Faar’Shar harnessed the power of free energy for their technology, which gave them the edge in pure firepower, but the Verakore specialized in technology that seemed to bend the laws of physics themselves, making them masters of subversion and quick, guerilla strikes. Where the Faar’Shar would normally never lose in a long, drawn out engagement, the Verakore would perform strikes that disrupted many Faar’Shar operations, leaving them open to ambushes and surprise attacks that would more often than not result in complete annihilation.

Jim: Seems similar to how the early Coalition-Empire wars were fought. The empire had the firepower, but before Humans entered the picture the Coalition relied on hit and run tactics to keep the enemy confused and disorganized.

Wraith: This one has noted the similarities between such conflicts. It appears that Humans were the variable that were different in this conflict.

Amy: Yeah well Humans are a particular brand of tenacious. I wish I could have seen the looks on the Naga’s faces when they realized how many resources they wasted on taking out a simple farming colony.

Wraith: You are referring to the Battle of Genos Prime right?

Amy: Yeah, battle may have been over 300 years ago but it's still a pretty big deal back home.

Jim: I can see why. Anyways, Wraith, are you saying some of these Verakore made it onto this ship?

Wraith: It is merely a possibility.

Jim: Still, it’s better to know what we could possibly be dealing with.

Wraith: That is also not necessary. The Verakore lifespan, while not as short as a Human’s, merely 200 years. Considering that there are no reports of the Verakore in this Galaxy since this one’s arrival, it is likely the species died off before they could have established a foothold.

Jim: Or, maybe they’re pulling a Faar’Shar and sticking to themselves and staying hidden.

Wraith: Unlikely, there would be at least one record of their existence should that be the case.

Amy: You know, you’re be awfully defensive of any information about the Verakore. Mind telling us why?

Wraith: This one cannot say.

Amy: Let me guess, Faar’Shar information only?

Wraith: Correct.

Amy: *Sigh* well do some more looking into the cause of her death alright?

Wraith: This one is already conducting further analyses.

Amy: Cool, in the meantime we’re just gonna be preoccupied with thoughts of another species that comes from another Galaxy that can kill the other nigh invincible species like nothing.

Jim: Pleasant thoughts.

Amy: I know right? Anyways while you’re doing that I guess I’ll be taking a look at those other coordinates. Let us know when you’re done.

Wraith: Affirmative.
