Day 72

Amy: Ok room number 3, what’s behind… whoa.

Jim: Looks kind of like an armory.

Wraith: You would be correct in your assessment.

Amy: Guns huh? I can dig guns.

Jim: Never took you for the gun type.

Amy: Hey now, the Corsair has guns you know.

Jim: Yeah but I doubt we’re gonna find anything to put on a ship here.

Amy: Oh stop being such a spoilsport.

Jim: Anyways, Wraith, give us the lowdown here.

Wraith: Understood. The room you are standing in is the Armory, like any armory its purpose is the storage and categorization of weapons. The weapons in this room can range from anti-infantry to anti-ship.

Jim: Anti-ship? Christ like what?

Wraith: There is the SPG-100 Hard Light Cannon.

Amy: Judging from the name… I imagine it shoots hard light really, really hard.

Wraith: You would be correct, one shot from this weapon is capable of downing a simple fighter or executing a hull breach to an enemy vessel.

Jim: And considering that this tech was probably designed for combat against a race as advanced as yours… there is no telling what it’ll do to our ships.

Wraith: This one has already conducted tests to the weapons’ effectiveness.

Jim: And you found?

Wraith: There is very little located in this Galaxy that is capable of defending against this vessel’s arsenal.

Jim: Yeesh, good thing you guys only decided to take one planet...

Amy: Question Wraith.

Wraith: Yes?

Amy: What is a colony ship doing conducting weapon tests?

Wraith: The effectiveness of one’s arsenal is fairly crucial to survivability is it not?

Amy: Right…

Jim: Anyways I’m noticing some more… well I wouldn’t call these pods per say.

Wraith: You are referring to the armor stations.

Jim: Yeah that, I’m assuming you just step in there and the station will slap some armor on for you right?

Wraith: The process is far more sophisticated than that but yes, you would be correct.

Amy: Maybe you should get yourself a suit Jim.

Jim: You serious? I’m not stepping in that thing.

Wraith: Since you have already underwent a bioscan it would not be difficult to modify an existing battleframe, you will not be capable to use any of the armaments here without it.

Jim:  Why is that?

Wraith: Many of the weapons here exist as attachments to a battle frame rather than separate like many of this galaxy’s weapons. The weapons derive their power from free energy, but the ability to manipulate such energy is derived from the battle frame’s OS.

Jim: Your armor has an OS?

Wraith: Correct, otherwise the manipulation of free energy would not be possible.

Amy: This OS wouldn’t include the use of AI would it?

Wraith: No, it is merely there to follow the user of the frame’s intent.

Jim: So the user what, just imagines what he wants the frame to do and it just does it?

Wraith: Not quite, it is impossible for the OS to read your thoughts so that must be facilitated through the use of gestures.

Jim: What if I just wanted to shoot a bullet or something?

Wraith: Simple operations like that are handled by the frame’s basic systems. For more complicated armaments, however, attachments must be added.

Amy: More complicated armaments?

Wraith: The manipulation of more than one projectile at once, accelerated manipulation of free energy, modification of the shape of projectiles, and even the mixing of multiple types of free energy into a single projectile.

Jim: Wow, what about the Hard Light Cannon? That sounded pretty separate from what these Frames can do.

Wraith: That weapon requires a much larger attachment, it cannot operate on its own, but it is too large to attach directly onto the frame without hindering the frame’s movement.

Jim: So it’s just a big gun that can’t function without its armor?

Wraith: Correct.

Amy: So what do you say big guy? Ready for a suit of armor?

Jim: ...I’ll think about it.
