Arcane Thief 1. First Steps

The darkness was familiar to him, like he hadn’t even left his old shabby apartment when he entered the game. He felt aware of his body but could not see it, a sensation that he found strange yet oddly comfortable at first. It wasn’t before long that the first window popped up.

He pressed the area on the box that would have said yes, causing the window to close before its message could finish displaying. Motes of light dotted the dark expanse and gathered in front of him, leaving his own body standing before him.

He pressed the area that would have said yes again, bringing up a window that held a list of sliders. His ‘hands’ worked fast, sliding them through the to the settings he had already decided on messing around with the game’s demo character creator on his computer. He didn’t want to look at his own body for too long.
Soon, what was once a gaunt, on the verge of starving body was replaced by one that held enough muscle to make him look athletic. His haunted face was replaced by one that held a cold expression, the kind that looked through people rather than at them. Black hair overtook his shaggy blonde hair, and he made his skin several shades lighter than it already was, giving him an almost ghost-like appearance. The only true embellishment he allowed himself were a pair of red eyes, the color of blood. He allowed himself a pitiful smile at his appearance.
“If only...” he muttered, but he shook his head, “In time man, in time.”
As strange as it was to him, seeing his avatar in front of him only steeled his determination. This was his last shot, if he failed in what he was going to do then there was no point in him even trying anymore.

He pressed the spot that would have said “Free Form”. The resulting flash of light blinded him for a moment, but when he looked down he saw the hands of his avatar were now his own, bring another pitiful smile to his face.
“Its fake… but I can enjoy this for a little bit, can’t I?”

His hand practically smacked the section that would have held the option of Retissia. According to his plan, it was the best place to do what he needed to do.

That was the option that made him pause. For his plan it was probably better to use a name that many people had, but at the same time there were ways to hide one’s username…
He supposed, that just for one moment, that he could embellish himself with a name that he thought fitted him.
“Null.”

He frowned, disappointed that his name wasn’t unique to him, though he was expecting it anyways. He like the name anyways, so he selected yes again.

He smack where “Yes” would have been once again.
“Come on, I don’t have time to fuck around.”

As if on command, the light overtook him.
